ART ROOM TRANSFORMATION

🎨 Arts and craft supplies are challenging to maintain even if you only dedicate one drawer or cabinet in your home for them. But when you want an entire room to be used for the sole purpose of having a space for you and/or your kids to get any creative juices flowing then you need to implement simple yet effective systems to follow so things stay under control.

It was part of the rebuild design for a Marshall Fire victim family and everything got dumped in the middle of the floor and put on shelves haphazardly when they moved back in.

There really wasn’t a lot of stuff…trust us, we’ve seen a lot more in smaller spaces.

But utilizing some organizing bins and shoe boxes that were donated to them made the decluttering and sorting process much easier. They may not be the most aesthetically appealing solutions but they function well and that is all that should matter.

Biggest takeaways and tips?

Sort through EVERYTHING to make sure you know exactly what you have and how much space you will need for each category of items. This client had hundreds of ✎ colored pencils and probably had no idea. Creating space for that many pencils wasn’t a problem per se but still, “you don’t know what you don’t know” right?

Don’t feel obligated to keep every craft project created or pile of Play Doh your child ever mushed together and was so proud about it. 📸Take photos if you think it will be that important to anyone that the memory be maintained.

If you are using what was designed to be a bedroom closet, you should remove the clothing bars and either install adjustable shelves or get shelving units or cubby systems that will fit the space.
